Neuroscience Division Mandate
The Neuroscience Division unites the members of Canadian Physiotherapy Association who are interested in all aspects of neuroscience. It provides leadership and direction to the physiotherapy profession in relation to neuroscience. It fosters excellence in practice by promoting best practice through information, education and knowledge translation. It encourages and supports development and publication of research in neuroscience.

NSD Strategic Directions
Enabling Research
To encourage and support neuroscience physiotherapy research from conception through development/ implementation/ evaluation to dissemination for use in practice.
- To support neuroscience research through Physiotherapy Foundation of Canada,
- To seek opportunities to partner with other organizations to promote and support neuroscience research.
- To ensure access to research findings through a variety of methods.
- To develop an initiative to team clinicians with researchers.
- To support education to members about research methodology.
- To support the Specialization pilot.
- To edit and contribute to the Interdivisional Review.
- To support research discussions.
- To support the Division Research Representative and the work of the DRRC and PRAC
- To support the dissemination of neuroscience physiotherapy research.
- To support the dissemination of other relevant research.
- To promote opportunities for research at all levels.
To investigate the latest technological advances and apply the appropriate technologies to advance the mission and vision of NSD.
- To employee technology to support knowledge exchange and transfer e.g. teleconferences, web casts, e-blasts. To establish an effective communication hub- the NSD website.
- To employee technology which supports the 4 strategic directions.
- To inform NSD members of technological advancements in neuroscience.
- To develop technological linkages to allow the efficient dissemination of neuroscience information to the public and policy makers
Ensure opportunities and mechanisms are available and accessible to all NSD members to assist them in acquiring knowledge and implementing knowledge into practice.
- To further develop the NSD education syllabus
- To encourage the use of the CPA mentorship program for PTs interested in neuroscience.
- To investigate the feasibility of increased knowledge exchanges e.g. discussion boards, journal clubs, presentations.
- To continue the CPA teleconference sessions.
- To support KT presentation at Congress
- To support the enhancement of Synapse.
- To offer a support grant to clinicians and grad students to attend Congress.
- To continue to award the remote bursary.
- Support Subgroup and Unit Formation and implementation.
- To develop a repository of clinical practice guidelines and best practices for neuroscience.
- To collaborate with other international PTs to establish an international neuroscience physiotherapy network.
- To establish a relationship with the American Physical Therapy Association Neurology Section.
- To facilitated of student membership to encourage neuroscience physical rehabilitation
- To encourage PTA membership in NSD.
Equip NSD members with the principles, methods, and practices needed to ensure best neuroscience physiotherapy practice resulting in clients achieving participation of life.
- To assist the NSD membership in acquiring skills and increasing capacity for local advocacy for their clients and neuroscience physiotherapy.
- To support the use of the WHO International Classification of Function within neuroscience PT.
- To work with CPA and provincial branches to advocate at the policy level on issues affecting neuroscience PT and those we serve.
- To keep current on latest policy trends and opportunities affecting neuroscience physiotherapy.
- To collaborate with organizations representing clientele served by neuroscience physiotherapy.
- To voice our role on chronic disease prevention and management.
